Art journal page Dream on with acrylic paints and a butterfly

Art journal: Art and Soul

This art journal page was inspired by paint brushes, as I'm painting the walls of my new apartment at the moment. "Art washes from the soul the dust of everyday life." To see how I made this mixed media layout, click the link to Youtube time lapse video tutorial at the end of this page.

- white paper for pencil drawing, 120 g/m2
- crackle stamp, I used my own digital crackle stamp that I had printed out with my laser printer
- word "ART" printed out on white drawing paper
- images of paint brushes
- a piece of canvas
- an old book page or paper for glueing down the brushes with a glue stick
- Ranger Distress Ink / Vintage photo
- acrylic or water color paints: red, yellow, blue (I used cheap paints in small tubes from Tiger)
- stencil with small stars
- silver effect paste (Marabu)
- Dutch Doobadoo stencil Metall 2
- white sand effect paste (Marabu)
- Dylusions spray ink, color Vibrant turqoise
- black acrylic paint, diluted with water
- glue stick
- craft glue
- water soluble black marker for shadowing
- charcoal pencil for shadowing
- various permanent black markers for outlining
- white gel pen
- black paper for the title
- small star stickers
- white gesso

I started with printing out the crackle stamp and the word ART on white drawing paper, which I used as the background. I added water color, images of paint brushes, paint, the canvas and other details. I used two different stencils and effect pastes. The title is written with white gel pen on black paper. Remember to clean your stencil and brushes immediately after use with warm water and let everything dry before you go on to the next step!
