ART JOURNALING

Art journal page Celebrate Life with Simple Stories Love & Adore paper

Art journal: Celebrate Life

This cheerful art journal page was created with transparent acrylic paint, scrapbooking paper and a little stenciling. I used Love & Adore 6x6 paper pad by Simple Stories. It was great fun making this page and it didn't take too much time. I love the simplicity of this page and the vibrant, fruity colors. To see how I made this mixed media layout, click the link to Youtube time lapse video tutorial at the end of this page.

LIST OF SUPPLIES

- white paper for pencil drawing, 120 g/m2
- stencil with small circles
- pink and yellow transparent acrylic paint (mine is made by Flying Tiger, which is a Danish brand, but you can use any transparent paint you like, for example Distress paints by Tim Holtz)
- sponge daubers or make-up sponges for spreding paint
- patterned scrapbooking paper (I used Love & Adore 6x6 paper pad by Simple Stories)
- glue stick
- black Sharpie or other marker that writes on acrylic paint
- water soluble black marker for shadowing
- white texture paste / effect paste (I used Creabox Marabu effect paste)
- black permanent pigment marker 0.1 - 0.2
- alphabet stamps and black ink (I used Archival ink)

HOW TO MAKE THIS ART JOURNAL PAGE

I started with making some pink circles with a stencil. While the paint was drying I tore a couple of pieces from scrapbooking paper (Love & Adore / Simple Stories) and glued them down to the bottom corners. I diluted my transparent acrylic paints with water to be even more transparent and to be of lighter shade. Then I mixed yellow and pink together and spred all over the surface to unify the page. I drew an arch using an old plate and glued down six small paper flags on the mixed media background and added some circles with white texture paste. Finally, I added the title and a scribbled frame. Remember to clean your stencil immediately after use with warm water and let everything dry before you go on to the next step! Acrylic paints dry really fast.
