Art journal page: Still loving you

Art journal: Still loving you

This purple and gold art journal page was created with Dylusions spray inks, white and gold texture pastes and a stencil called "Mini tiny circles" designed by Balzer Designs. I also used an original vintage Dymo writer to write the title "Still loving you" on pink tape from the late 70's - so it's possibly about 40 years old! I adhered it with glue and two staples to make sure it would stick to the piece of wrinkled gold foil under it, which is not the best possible surface to glue things on. To see how I made this mixed media layout, click the link to Youtube time lapse video tutorial at the end of this page.

- Canson mixed media paper, 200 g/m2 (120 lb)
- heart shaped piece of paper torn from an old book
- washi tape with gold pattern
- stencil: Mini tiny circles / TCW designed by Balzer Designs
- golden texture paste / effect paste (I used Creabox Marabu effect paste)
- glue stick
- pieces of patterned paper, old gift wrap will do
- gold foil, chocolate wrap will do
- white gesso
- white texture paste / effect paste (I used Creabox Marabu effect paste)
- silicone brush or paint brush
- Dylusions spray inks: Bubblegum pink, Pomergranade seed and Vibrant turqoise
- acrylic gold paint (I used Monte Marte metallic paint)
- a fan brush or small paint brush to make spatters
- Vintage Dymo label marker or word  stickers. If you don't have access to a vintage Dymo machine, you can print out your title using free font called "Impact Label" to create the same effect.
- white pva craft glue
- a couple of staples
- Distress Ink color Vintage photo to darken the edges of the paper heart - thin double sided foam tape to adhere the heart
- black pigment marker 0.2
- white gel pen
- piece of purple tissue paper
- gold pen

I started with the paper heart adding some washi tape and effect paste and then I created the mixed media background. I glued down pieces of patterned paper and some wrinkled gold foil. Then I coated the page lightly with white gesso and added some texture with "Tiny dots" stencil and let the page dry. I colored the page using Dylusions inks, three shades: Bubblegum pink, Pomergranade seed and Vibrant turqoise. I sprayd water and turned the page up and down to get the inks moving and to help them get mixed. The title is made with an old Dymo label maker and I adhered it using glue and a couple of staples. I added some hand writing and other details too, which you can see on the video. Remember to clean your stencil immediately after use with warm water and let everything dry before you go on to the next step!
